How did you find Northeast Ohio Fit?
I came to Ladies night at Vertical Runner in Hudson before the 2010 season. I had run a few 10ks and Brenda and Lori convinced me that I could do a half.

How long have you been a member?
I ran the Akron Half in 2010 with NEOFit.

What keeps you coming back?
I love the people I run with, the easy-to-follow plan, and the accountability.

What is your favorite part of the season?
Pot lucks, the Blue Line Run, anytime we run down carriage trail, the first time around Meadows Loop, and, of course, Race Day.

What’s the most important thing you get out of your training?
I need a plan to follow and I love having company on long runs.

How does training with Northeast Ohio Fit help you reach your personal goals?
NEOFit helped me to reach goals I never even considered trying. I ran a marathon!

What are three things you would make sure to mention if you were telling a friend about this program?
1. You can do it!  2. Everyone will support you. 3. It's fun!

How did you find Northeast Ohio Fit?
Mapquest. I got up one morning and my wife said, “Let’s go out for breakfast this morning.” The next thing I knew, I was eating a potluck in the Harriet Keeler pavilion with all these runners.

How long have you been a member?
This year will be my third breakfast.

What keeps you coming back?
It really is a great way to spend a Saturday morning doing something healthy and seeing some very nice people.

What is your favorite part of the season?
Early on when it is still nice and cool in the mornings and at the very end when everyone is rested up from the Akron Marathon and sitting in the stands of the stadium cheering me in!

What’s the most important thing you get out of your training?
I truly do feel a sense if accomplishment even though I haven’t logged in the same miles as the rest of my running friends.

How does training with Northeast Ohio Fit help you reach your personal goals?
I’ve got a solid 20 minutes of material for my stand up routine. I really do it to have fun and be part of my wife’s more serious training.

What are three things you would make sure to mention if you were telling a friend about this program?
(1) There is room for everyone. (2) You will meet many very nice people. (3) Exercise can be fun. And, so can meeting for coffee afterwards.

How did you find Northeast Ohio Fit?
I found it inadvertently on Facebook and was immediately interested in what it was all about.

How long have you been a member?
This season will be my third year.

What keeps you coming back?
The people.  I miss not going on Saturdays when the season is over.  It is so fun to have a group of people to see each week that like to exercise and be outside. Plus it is something that my husband and I can do together to be more active.

What is your favorite part of the season?
I like the whole season but my favorite part are the Saturday morning runs.

What is the most important thing you get out of your training?
I learned how to prepare to be able to run longer distances.  Specifically, how important hydration, fuel and gear are to long runs that I would never have known if I was running alone.

How does training with Northeast Ohio Fit Help you reach your personal goals?
It has taught me that I could run so much farther than I ever thought I could and how running with people with a same goals is so much more fun than I ever could have imagined.

What are three things you would make sure to mention if you were telling a friend about this program?
If you are looking for people who like to have fun and exercise this is such a great program.  2) You get out of it what you put into it.  You have to put in the work but it is so worth it.  3) I never thought I ever could run as far as I have and I am planning to run my first marathon this year.

What does being a part of NEO Fit mean to you?
The best part of NEO Fit is SATURDAY MORNINGS!
Because that is when we all get together and run.  NEO Fit is such a great community of runners who are real everyday people. Everyone looking out for each other and helping each other reach our goals. And Saturday morning is when all of that comes together. It's so great to see!

What inspires you to continue supporting and coaching NEO Fit members?
The best part of coaching is seeing my friends (new and old) reach new goals. Be it a first race, a new distance or a new time. It's just fun to be a small part of something they build.

What is your favorite part of the training season?
Actually my favorite part is from day 1 to race day! In the beginning you wonder "How did I get into this?"  And as the weeks go by you amaze yourself on just what you can do. There are always up and downs, good days and bad days. And at times you might have to take a hard look and reassess what your goals are. And that is what is great about the whole training season you learn more about yourself than your running.

What is your advice for new members?
Consistency on your training - follow the schedule. Learn from your mistakes and your successes. Think back as to what might have been the reason for a really good run or a really bad run. Did I eat well/not well

Northeast Ohio Fit

How did you find Northeast Ohio Fit?
I found NEO Fit at work through Lori Karpinecz. Lori knew I was a runner and when I told her I wanted to run a marathon she told me I had to join NEO Fit.  I'm so glad I took her advice and didn't let getting up early every Saturday morning dissuade me.

How long have you been a member?
2019 will be my 4th year as a member.

What keeps you coming back?
I come back because running with NEO Fit and all the wonderful, friendly, encouraging people I have met has become part of my life.   Running with this group is the highlight of each week.

What is your favorite part of the season?
It's hard to say what my favorite part of the season is - I enjoy all of it.  I enjoy meeting new members at the start of the season.  Also, all the long runs feel like such an accomplishment - I enjoy that also.

What’s the most important thing you get out of your training?
The most important things I get out of my training are probably the structure and encouragement from other members.  And the pre-run seminars each Saturday provide perfect reminders and tips that help me stay on track, stay hydrated, stay safe, etc.

How does training with Northeast Ohio Fit help you reach your personal goals?
Training with NEO Fit helped me meet my original goal to run a full marathon and encouraged me to create and accomplish other running goals I did not know I would even have.  There is always someone encouraging me to go farther.  The goals I've reached give me much personal satisfaction.

What are three things you would make sure to mention if you were telling a friend about this program?
I've told a number of people about NEO Fit (runners and non-runners).  I always tell them 1) the people are friendly, encouraging and all ages; 2) getting up early to run in the park with this group when the sun is just coming up is a priceless experience; 3) we have this saying "we love to eat, that's why we run".  I love that!

Northeast Ohio Fit

How did you find Northeast Ohio Fit?
My wife discovered it for us through a friend and on social media in search of a way to help prepare me for a bucket list item by completing a full marathon.

How long have you been a member?
Along with my wife, this is our 4th season together with this wonderful group.

What keeps you coming back?
There is more than one answer.
1. The time my wife of 36 years and I spend doing something together while keeping her out of the shoe stores.
2. The wonderful people we have met, and the challenge to continue improving myself.

What is your favorite part of the season?
The beginning of the season when we have all come out of winter hibernation, and just about a week before a race and you know you are prepared for the challenge ahead.

What’s the most important thing you get out of your training?
Maintaining a level of fitness that keeps me out of a rocking chair lol.

How does training with Northeast Ohio Fit help you reach your personal goals?
The answer is a little bit weird. I run to stay in shape so I can run. Instead of running just to stay in shape. If that makes any sense.

What are three things you would make sure to mention if you were telling a friend about this program?
1. It's the easiest way to stay committed to a simple level fitness if that is your main objective.
2. You're only person in this group who judges you... is you.
3. They serve the best pot luck breakfast in town.

Form: How It Feels is Important How does it feel? It was an endless process. Run a 100-meter stride, walk back and hear this question repeated over and over.
