We wrote our own training program and after finishing the marathon “badly”, we decided to join a new training program the following year – FBF. My running immediately improved and I met the most amazing people. Since joining FBF, I have completed many marathons including many 50Ks, two 50 milers, The Rocky Raccoon 100 mile endurance race (twice), The Brazos Bend 100K (twice), and the 2006 Boston Marathon – after qualifying with my FBF friends.

I completed my most recent 100 miler with my Co-Organizer Azam Syed in 2021. Watching from the sidelines, I could not believe people of any age, any shape or form could run a marathon so much better than I ran my half marathon. I decided I need to figure this thing out. I joined FBF, it was 2015.

Since joining Fort Bend Fit I have completed 15 Full Marathons, including back to back marathon weekends in Washington DC (Marine Corps Marathon) & New York (New York City Marathon). Prior to this I was not a runner, save for the occasional casual 5k fun runs. I did not even know that running clubs were a thing. I just wanted to set what seemed to be an impossible dream and then figure out how to achieve this. I joined a gym, hired a personal trainer, and started the journey to get my body into shape to be able to run a marathon. Along the way, I signed up for the USA fit Simone Spine 5K (February 2018) through my daughter’s elementary school. That is how I learned about Fort Bend Fit running club. So, I joined FBF in the summer of 2018, and trained for my first marathon that season. I successfully completed my first Houston Chevron Marathon in January 2019, a day after my 50th birthday, achieving my goal. I have not stopped since. I enjoy the FBF’s training program and process for long distance running. I also recognize and enjoy the fact that you do not have to be fast runner to run long distances. My goal is to run injury-free, to always find ways to keep the love for running fresh, and not burn out with running. I am not in competition with anyone but myself. Prior to that, I had never really been much of an athlete. In high school, I was in the band, choir, science club, National Honor Society – you know, pretty much a geek. I started running when I was 35; having had a friend complete a marathon, I was inspired to see if I could work up to running a whole mile. With the encouragement of friends, I got there, then added another mile, and kept running. Some time later, my husband Randy saw an ad for Fort Bend Fit, and I signed up, showed up for Saturday runs, and learned a lot about marathoning. I ran the Compaq Houston Marathon in January 2002; since that time, I have completed 18 marathons, 3 ultra marathons (50K), Dozens of half marathons, and lots of other shorter distance races.

I have lots of favorite quotes, but one particularly stands out for her: “The miracle isn’t that I finished.
