On my own, I began running 5k races, then gradually increased my distance and ran my first half marathon. What a thrill! But that first half marathon (exciting yet so grueling!) showed me that there was so much more to learn.<\/p>\n<span><a onclick=\"read_toggle(1274658011, 'Read More', 'Read Less'); return false;\" class=\"read-link\" id=\"readlink1274658011\" style=\"readlink\" href=\"#\">Read More<\/a><\/span>\n<div class=\"read_div\" id=\"read1274658011\" style=\"display: none;\">\n<p>Joining USA FIT Providence completely transformed my running experience and my outlook as a distance runner! Our Saturday morning long runs overflowed with banter, camaraderie, victory shouts, and so much laughter. This wasn\u2019t at all like the solitary long runs from training on my own! Plus, armed with the training plan and philosophy, I was no longer puzzling over the best way to prepare for race day. The group gave me guidance from coaches, and the clarity and structure of the schedule. The spirit of unity was magical, as was showing up for races as part of an exuberant team.<\/p>\n<p>With our group, I have become a marathoner, even persevering through 26.2 miles of pouring rain and gusts of wind! We go the whole way together, mile after mile of training runs, and then on race days, we feel the euphoria of crossing the finish line among teammates and friends. Together, we commit to these goals that seem insurmountable, we come to believe that we can do it, and we share the joy of accomplishment! We lived in Florida at the time, so it was easy to run year round. I started with a few 5Ks, and I graduated to my first 1\/2 marathon in Palm Beach in December, 2006. After my second son Alex was born in 2008, I was back at it. By the time 2012 came around I had four 1\/2 marathons, a lot of 5Ks, and was ready to try for the marathon.<\/p>\n<span><a onclick=\"read_toggle(1980713674, 'Read More', 'Read Less'); return false;\" class=\"read-link\" id=\"readlink1980713674\" style=\"readlink\" href=\"#\">Read More<\/a><\/span>\n<div class=\"read_div\" id=\"read1980713674\" style=\"display: none;\">\n<p>I decided to buy a book and train alone. Bad plan. It culminated with a knee injury from overtraining 2 weeks before the marathon. My goal was to run a marathon before I turned 40, and I had failed.<\/p>\n<p>Fast forward to 2016. We are now living in Wrentham, MA. After what turned out to be a minor health scare, the marathon was back in my head. What if I don't get a chance to do it? I shouldn't wait. Why not try before 45? I searched for a program and found USA Fit Providence. I knew I needed the group setting and more structure, but not something that would be intimidating. USA Fit Providence was it, and I'm happy to say I proudly crossed the finish line in Chicago in 2016 and am now, officially, a marathoner!<\/p>\n<p>My running experience consists of one marathon, six 1\/2 marathons and numerous 5Ks.<\/p>\n<p>I couldn't have finished Chicago without the support of my family and USA Fit Providence. I am excited to help others accomplish what they may think is impossible... or at best difficult.
